Plant Based Grub That I Like

Heart veggie

As of late several people have asked me for resources on plant based food alternatives over animal based food. This is not a comprehensive list, but for the sake of getting an initial post out there of food that I like and resources to leverage, here you go.

For those that don’t know me, I am vegan. I was vegetarian for 2 years, and my 2 year vegan anniversary is May 5th, 2015.

Disclaimers up front:

1)      I’m not a doctor, nor any type of certified nutritionist; consult with your doctor and do your research before altering your diet.

2)      This post is not meant to debate one diet over another, rather it is just information for those that have asked for plant based food alternatives over animal based food.

3)      I’m not getting paid jack to represent these brands or authors. These are just my every day choices, things that I have tried, and some of my favorites. I love to eat!

Ok, now that that crap is over, we can continue!

One of the number one things non-vegans say after finding out someone is vegan is, “Where do you get your protein?” Well, America’s marketing on protein intake has worked on you! The net is you can get plenty of plant based protein.

Check out these athletes: http://www.greatveganathletes.com/bodybuilders

They’re definitely getting enough protein, wouldn’t you say?

Shown below is a quick visual I found online of high protein based foods. There are a number of these charts out there, so if protein is your thing don’t worry. You can get plenty.

High Protein foods

Depending on where you live you may or may not have access to the variety of meat and dairy alternatives. I can definitely tell people are becoming more aware of the food they’re eating, and as a result many new plant based foods are lining the grocery stores from Target to (as expected) Whole Foods. By the way, Whole Foods is my favorite place because of all of the organic and non-GMO labeled choices, but I am delighted that other grocery chains are working to catch up. Grocery stores typically have these products sectioned off in the fresh produce, frozen, and dairy aisles.

Here are a few images of plant based brands in case you are visual like me.
